Koparkhairane - all dug up!

Jan 18, 2011

"Hum road pe itney khaddey karengey ki confuse ho jaaogey ke gaadi kahaan pe chalaayein aur chalein kahaan pe."

After digging up almost all the main roads in Koparkhairane, NMMC is all set to take up footpaths as well! Already, with all the ubad-khaabad (dug up) roads, if you travel in an open vehicle / walk for over 10 minutes, you would definitely need to take a shower to wash away all the dhool-mitti (read 'sins' of those responsible for tod-phod). Not to mention the unstoppable honking resulting from the traffic jams that gives you enough sleepless nights and dark circles that no makeup can help you hide.

And now if NMMC is planning to snatch away even our footpaths for a while, be prepared to walk on stone-studded paths. I am wondering if it was worth purchasing all my new chappals... it's peak season for the cobblers at least!

I know, speaking anything about this (call it cribbing if you wish, I care a damn) will not solve anything. But at least I feel better at heart. And this once, all the more since what I feel appears in DNA's Navi Mumbai edition:

PS -  I know some authorities may say that it is all for our own good. But all roads and footpaths at the same time??? We are not planning to call it Khadda-khairane, are we?

Accident prone Koparkhairane Station - Subway turning point

May 13, 2010

Almost once a week, the screeching sound of some or the other vehicle makes me rush to the window. Residents who stay near Koparkhairane station are now used to the sight of this scenario. The subway and the station road (DMart side) meet at a point where vehicles pour in from all directions making it tough for those driving into the area for the first time and for the daily pedestrians. Worst, the street lights aren't operational!

The accident at Koparkhairane: On Wednesday (12th May 2010), it was very late in the night and I heard this loud screeching sound. I rushed to the window and was shocked. It appeared that a car had bumped into a bike (am not 100% sure since the street lights were not working). The person driving the car did not run away but stopped it a few feet away. It was clear that he wanted to come out and help the biker who was thrown away and was lying on the road, perhaps unconscious. But as is the case always, within a few seconds crowd gathered - many men, most of them medium / strong built. I noticed the car driver open the door of his car twice and turn behind to step out, but the crowd looked furious and he stayed inside. He did not hit and run. Now the crowd started creating a scene. It took them a few minutes to rush the victim to the hospital. They had to remove their frustration on the car driver first!!!

Traffic jam at Palm Beach road between Vashi-Koparkhairane

May 8, 2010

The best part I loved about shifting to Navi Mumbai was absence of traffic jams. But ever since the road construction work has begun between Vashi (from Blue Diamond hotel junction) to Koparkhairane (a little before D mart), this road has very slow moving traffic. Worst, especially on weekends, there's heavy traffic jam at Palm Beach road in the evenings between Vashi-Koparkhairane. Hope things get better soon!

Conmen pose as police, rob people

Jan 31, 2010

While me and my husband were returning home a few days back, we saw a hoarding put up by the police near Koparkhairane railway station. We paused for a while to read and were impressed to see how the Navi Mumbai / Koparkhairane police is taking steps to prevent people from robbers. After all, the hoarding had detailed message for the pedestrians on being alert and advised people against wearing too much gold jewelry. We could not stop praising the police. But today's news about conmen looting people using police hoardings was rather shocking.

Construction noise even after midnight!

Jan 27, 2010

New buildings are sprouting in Navi Mumbai and the result is non-stop construction noise. I understand we must bear with it for the development of the satellite city. But as much as I have heard of, construction noise is permitted until 7 pm or so.

But here in Koparkhairane, I think noise after midnight is 'granted'. We have 2 plots near our building.Though the building construction noise of one building stops after evening, a latest development has happened in another plot. Some huge dumping of mud (or whatever the term is, I would not know) is taking place and there are these two trucks and this leveling machine that make noise throughout the day and even after 12 am in the night!
