Accident prone Koparkhairane Station - Subway turning point

May 13, 2010

Almost once a week, the screeching sound of some or the other vehicle makes me rush to the window. Residents who stay near Koparkhairane station are now used to the sight of this scenario. The subway and the station road (DMart side) meet at a point where vehicles pour in from all directions making it tough for those driving into the area for the first time and for the daily pedestrians. Worst, the street lights aren't operational!

The accident at Koparkhairane: On Wednesday (12th May 2010), it was very late in the night and I heard this loud screeching sound. I rushed to the window and was shocked. It appeared that a car had bumped into a bike (am not 100% sure since the street lights were not working). The person driving the car did not run away but stopped it a few feet away. It was clear that he wanted to come out and help the biker who was thrown away and was lying on the road, perhaps unconscious. But as is the case always, within a few seconds crowd gathered - many men, most of them medium / strong built. I noticed the car driver open the door of his car twice and turn behind to step out, but the crowd looked furious and he stayed inside. He did not hit and run. Now the crowd started creating a scene. It took them a few minutes to rush the victim to the hospital. They had to remove their frustration on the car driver first!!!

Traffic jam at Palm Beach road between Vashi-Koparkhairane

May 8, 2010

The best part I loved about shifting to Navi Mumbai was absence of traffic jams. But ever since the road construction work has begun between Vashi (from Blue Diamond hotel junction) to Koparkhairane (a little before D mart), this road has very slow moving traffic. Worst, especially on weekends, there's heavy traffic jam at Palm Beach road in the evenings between Vashi-Koparkhairane. Hope things get better soon!
